We don't know what discussions management and Ferris have had over the months/years.
I have not seen management even comment on the Bennett situation. Have you?
The only thing we even know is that Treliving and Bennett had a conversation about the publicity of this request recently. That may have been something as simple as "Hey, even though your agent went public with this, we're still not obligated to deal you. Hope you understand". But that is pure speculation on my part.
As far as I can tell, we do not know what management did or did not know about Bennett wanting out.
