This show thrives on portraying rich powerful people as awful humans and since everyone on this show is rich and powerful it’s basically just a show about horrible people.

I only just saw this comment, so sorry on the late reply, but Thatcher being awful is only new to those of us outside the U.K. To support this idea, here's a song by Elvis Costello discussing the damage of Thatcher and how he can't wait until she's dead.
