My concern with the Senate not taking up the impeachment immediately (but rather after Trump is already out of office) is that it allows many Republicans to say “well, he’s already out of office, so the threat is over, so what’s the point of conviction now?” And I’m sure someone will say that if is up to the voters to decide whether Trump should be able to hold another office again.
Such a delay lets them keeping claiming to be concerned without having to actually do anything at all really.
It is a wonderful strategy.
