I remember this. People were laughing at us for signing him to 3 years on almost 3m per year. We as Flames fans didn’t care because we were rebuilding at the time, but I think that made our expectations awfully low. He was an instant favorite when we saw his leadership and standing up for our young guys.

I feel like we’ve lacked a great bottom pairing D that can throw hits and stick up for the teammates. Yes, we have some, but I don’t think to the extent of McGrattan or Engelland. Maybe Lucic, but only time will tell.
