It's not sanctimonious, it's truly how I feel about how people should respond to the terrible things in the world. Now, feel free to call me naive, because that's entirely possible, but I think the less hatred spewed, the better off we all are. I can only take care of myself. It's up to others to figure out their own moral compass and find their own way.
I fully understand the glee people are taking in this, I just don't think it's positive to do that in the long run. I'm not trying to judge anyone here, just offering my perspective.

I might have agreed with you once, but watching what this administration has done to the institutions of government, sowing distrust in the free press, trying to take away universal health care, hypocritically ramming through a SCJ a MONTH before the election, botching a pandemic response for political points and stirring racial animus ... i could go on and on and on.
Obama's biggest mistake was trying to be bipartisan, believing in the 'fundamental goodness' in people, instead of using a huge mandate and the bully pulpit to push through a bigger stimulus package and stronger healthcare package.
Holding out an olive branch to the GOP has failed. Miserably.
