Calgary is a great place to raise a family if you’re middle-class. But most big American cities are better if you’re rich like an NHL player. It’s not as though these guys or their families are ever going to be taking public transit, live in an average neighbourhood, or go to an average public school. They live in a completely different world from you or I.
Every major city in the U.S. has a few enclaves where rich people people live, shop, play golf, go to restaurants, and send their kids to school. And those enclaves are nicer than anywhere in Calgary. Because the whole purpose of America’s hyper-capitalism is to make it an awesome place to be rich.
