The "traditional" conservatism in Alberta is more like Utah (less the religion) and the fringe (extreme) is just like Idaho (less the guns).

Alberta gets that reputation because it's conservative by Canadian standards. But by every measure (church attendance, attitudes about guns, attitudes about abortion, attitudes about immigration), Alberta is much less conservative than Idaho or Utah.
