Well, we know how they signed him to that, he was a 53 point player at the time.
But, no, questions like, "you're our superstar, the MVP candidate, who aspires to be the best player in the world, you score in 14 straight games and then pick the biggest game of the season to lay a goose egg in? It's not even like Khudobin just stoned you, he was beatable".
I don't think Mackinnon was terrible in this game, by any means. But he wasn't dominant like he is sometimes. It's not like he played some epic, amazing game and his teammates let him down - the Avs, as a group, showed up. They came to play. And in spite of that, Mackinnon just didn't have his usual effect. Some of that is credit to the stars, but this is Nathan MacKinnon we're talking about. When it gets to game 7, being that guy means that your team can say, "everything's on the line? Cool. We have this guy, and you don't. See you next year." He has yet to provide that.
