Pettersen doesn't have NHL speed IMO. I've seen him live twice and on the tube three other times, and each of those times he didn't impress me with his skating. He's a one-way offensive player and cheats like hell out of the zone which sometimes gives the impression of speed, but he really doesn't have that extra gear. He's also a perimeter player. If people think Gaudreau is a wallflower, they are going to get frustrated with Pettersen very quickly. He is very good at using space and making the dish, but in the NHL where players are on you so quickly and the lanes are clogged up, I don't think he finds remotely the same level of success. If someone is willing to give you a player that could contribute to the existing core, I'd be more than willing to give him up. Unless he develops an extra gear I don't see anything more than a good AHL player and likely a guy who is a star in one of the Euro leagues.
