My reasoning is that he has finished both seasons as the backup and I don't see Flames going into next season with him as starter. If they go 1a and 1B again, then he could certainly stay.
But he is paid a lot as a backup and depending on what Treliving wants to do, I could see them needing the money especially if a true starter comes in. It could be a tight market for goalies and you'd think someone would need to see him as 1A or 1B for the money to work.
But yeah if you retain $1 million you have to think someone sees him as at least as a backup. And that's better for Flames than a buyout.
God knows the last impression anyone has of him would scream stay away so I'm not ready to rule out possibility of a buyout.
