I think anyone talking "a hockey trade" is missing the point. We aren't getting a #1 centre for Gaudreau or Monahan, so it doesn't matter.

This team isn't winning without an elite centre. That's the bottom line. The longer this team puts off building through the draft, the more mediocrity we'll be exposed to.
