Conventional wisdom has changed on other aspects of the game...
* Don't pull the goalie before the one minute mark. Now teams regularly do.
* Don't shoot for an empty net until you cross centre ice so you don't get an icing. Now teams regularly do.
Those are a couple quick examples but I'm sure there are others. The game evolves and changes in different ways and I'm in the camp that being without a stick is more of a handicap then rushing to get another one.
