Glad to see Lucic get rewarded with a goal after the first one was disallowed (horrible call). Neither shot could break a pane of glass, but they found their way into the cage, so good on Milan. The most important thing he brings to the mix is the counter to Lowry. Every time Lowry skates into a scrum and tries to intimidate, Lucic glides in and goes toe-to-toe, causing Lowry to quickly get separation behind a linesman. Lowry is a Flames killer and Lucic has taken a huge part of his game, and value to Jets, away just by skating into the scrum.
You have a point. All fan bases are pretty similar in that regard. A loss comes and the long knifes come out. Where those long knives are pointed is what is important.
I find that Flames fans tend to focus on 1) the refereeing, 2) the coaching, 3) the Flames whipping boys, 4) the refereeing, 5) the GM and make up of the team, 6) the actual players who are paid to make a difference. Rarely do Flames fans take a look at the other team and what they just did to beat the Flames. Every loss on this board is pretty much self-inflicted in some way.
Jets and Oilers fans are a little different. They tend to immediately start going full Brutus on 1) the other team's best players, and claiming they are dirty, 2) the other team's role players, and claiming they are dirty, 3) the other team's coaching and management, and claiming they encourage dirty play, 4) the referees, allowing dirty plays being committed against their saintly players, 5) the sun getting in their eyes. Oilers fans take it one step further by 6) claiming a league wide conspiracy to hold their team back and prevent them from claiming the hardware that is theirs by birthright. But beyond that, the two fan bases are pretty well the same and never look at the play of their own team as a major contributing factor to a loss.
Calgary isn't that much different. Small outpost on the edge of the NHL's hinterlands. What works in Calgary's advantage is diversity and education, meaning people are more open to introspection. But there are times where you have to question just how much of a difference that makes, as team sports is team sports and people get wrapped up in it pretty tightly. Doesn't matter how bad a player is, he's our player and we shall look past his uselessness so long as he wears our colors.
