This is 'repairable' if you feel the jeans are worth the additional investment ($30-$50).

Things to maximize the life of your jeans:
- Buy better quality and/or heavier weight
- Launder infrequently (I can go 2 - 3 years between washes with weekly wearing). Obviously this wouldn't work with 'job-site jeans'.
- Have enough pairs to allow your jeans to rest/dry-out between wears - at least 3 - 4 days between wears
- Ensure proper fit

As for look - Display manikins are a fine way to get a feel for what types of looks you prefer. My cautions: 1) They usually feature outfits that have a high profit-margin for the store so you are unlikely to get a deal; and, 2) They typically display 'trends' rather than 'style' so they will look dated more quickly than is necessary.

Men are pretty lucky in that if you can ignore a lot of the trendy stuff, you can expect a lot of quality pieces to still 'look good' in 10 years.
This. Go to Dutil.

I’ve been wearing Nudies for ~15 years. Dont have my originals, but have a pair that’s probably 10 years old. Repaired a few times, and feel like jogging pants now. Love em.

Denim only requires a few, high quality pairs.
