Gaudreau can produce with anyone. We’ve seen him in the World Cup where he was arguably the best player on a team that included McDavid and Matthews. Closer to home we’ve seen him on a line with Derek Ryan and Elias Lindholm and still be productive. Monahan may be the trigger man on the line, but anyone can stand in front of the net and wait for the puck, the hardest part is creating the chance in itself, making plays, drawing defenders and then making a picture perfect pass.

There’s a reason the Gaudreau-Monahan-Neal line didn’t work. You had 2 trigger men on the same line where the winger is the primary playmaker. If Monahan was the playmaker up the middle, maybe Neal would still be around and the Flames currently wouldn’t be saddled with such an albatross of a contract.
