I don't buy that someone would tie a noose in Alabama without thinking they tying a noose. I wouldn't casually tie a rope into a noose and leave it around my office and not expect to be fired. People in the south grow up with a bunch of friends doing a bunch of racist things, sometimes without much thought or even emotion behind it. I'm sure casually tying nooses is one of those things. I don't think the person needs to necessarily be fired or have their life ruined, but hopefully people continue to learn and grow from this.
