Cherry was a career minor leaguer (albeit the majority spent during the six-team NHL era). Modest success as a coach in the AHL and NHL. Pretty good broadcasting run based on that resume. The outsized personality schtick played well. Coach's Corner, his own syndicated TV show, a daily syndicated radio commentary. Chain of Sports Bars at one point.

I don't feel sorry for him.
