Make sure it's someone you can really connect with, I'm single right now and really have no need for a signifigant other. Just from my life experiences it's best to find that special person to spend your time with that a one or two month GF that you'll end up hating...
Either way, you'll know when to ask a girl out for a coffee, a walk, ect once you get to talking a bit.
