It's funny how completely blinded GMs can be sometimes and they can't see what is obvious to practically everyone else.
I also love the idea of "saving cap space" with a buyout. You only have to waste a few million in cap space to save a few million. It reminds me of my sister's shopping habits when she buys stuff on sale that she doesn't need and brags about how much money she saved.

It wasn't that obvious to me.
Seems to be pretty common for teams to sign backups who have had success to be their next starter. Obviously his contract looks bad now but he would have turned UFA and likely many suitors. Career save percentage above .920 when he signed the deal. Were his personal problems well known at the time?
Couldn't agree more on your buyout point. Buying out Brouwer for the Flames made a bad decision worse IMO.
