It's possible it is being horribly bungled, but the private sytem has led to far to many "shouldn't be on the road" drivers, include professionals. See: Humbolt, most semi drivers, and every taxi driver in Calgary. This needed to be done, hopefully they can avoid NDPing it up to badly.

A big first step would be to 'ungovernment' the hours and allowing in the evenings and weekends like it used to be. It's bad enough a number of the examiners quit when control passed back into government hands but the ones that are left are working hours that are inconvenient now.
