I think back to some of the great teams I watched. No team ever anointed a guy captain without some NHL experience. And most of them didn't just go with "best player".

Loubardias ended by comparing the Oilers's young players to the situation the Flames are currently in. He said that Monahan and Gaudreau are now approaching 25-years-old, winning is hard, and they have worked their asses off for a long time to get to where we are now.
It gave me pause to think about how important Mark Giordano, TJ Brodie and Mikael Backlund have been for this team. All three were developed in the organization and the Flames are all they have ever known. When there are three good players like that in place, there is no opportunity for entitlement for anyone. Not ever.
