I don't think that there is really a debate about what has to be done. The Oilers are a team that's structurally broken every where.
A lack of wingers, a pretty poor blueline even when its healthy.
Inconsistent to bad goaltending
A prospect pool that nobody should be excited about.
I want to add the assumption that Katz wants a playoff appearance this year, and that's just based around the concept that he's concerned about renewals on luxury boxes in a bad economy.
The Oilers aren't a astute move or two from being a good team, the reason why they're even close to a playoff spot is a combination of struggling wildcard teams and a streak of great goaltending when Hitch came on board bailing out a bad team that seems to get badly outchanced on a nightly basis.
Logic says that its time for a massive sell off, but they don't have a lot of assets that teams are going to covet outside of their big three in McDavid, RNH and Draisaitl.
Other NHL GM's are pretty astute, they're not lining up for a poolparty, or a struggling Nurse or Larsson unless its as reclamation projects at a low low price.
I make fun of Oilers and their fans, but I'm amazed that its gotten this freaking bad with all of the advantages that they've received.
