I think he will do that with Brodie or Hamonic but not both. With Hamonic wanting to be in the West, right shot, physical, and being the ultimate team and community guy they are going to keep him. He also was an expensive acquisition and a guy Treliving brought in.

Brodie has rebuilt his value and he looks like a legit top pairing Dman again. We can thank our captain as he proved with Hamilton he can make his D partners look like elite players. I could see the Flames being able to get a pick in the 10-20 range in the draft this summer and maybe a little more?

If they have the idea that they will move Brodie or Hamonic this summer for a 1st then I do think they should be considering moving their own 1st this season to bolster their lineup. I would prefer that player having some term left on their contract and the other team taking back Frolik’s contract. If the Flames take on a player with term like Schenn and his $5.125 cap hit they would gain some cap relief bundling Frolik’s $4.3M in that deal and then moving Brodie’s $4.65M for picks at the draft. They load up for this season but avoid losing a core piece for nothing and still stocking the prospect cupboard with a higher pick than we would have with our own first.
I think next summer is the time to deal Brodie as well, not because I don't like him or want him, but it's a huge asset management issue, as well as cap management.

It all depends how Andersson and Kylington continue to develop as well.

In Andersson we have a young offensive Dman with top pairing potential and right shot. In Kylington we have essentially a younger version of Brodie potentially. Between the two of them they should be able to duke it out for Brodie's spot on the top pairing, let them share duties up there until one cements himself in that spot.

If Brodie keeps this up this season, he will have some serious value in the off season. Could return us some really strong futures and/or a solid young top 6 forward.
