It doesn't work that way. Once you've been typecast, you've been typecast. He can't rebuild his game in this league.
If I were Bennett, I would be looking to the KHL as a top line / PP forward, in fact I would go to Avangard Omsk where Bob Hartley is currently coaching as that's a coach who really knew how to build up a skilled player(remember when he actually sat Monahan down and told him he didn't want Monahan to be a checker? Meanwhile our last two coaches courtesy of Tre want everyone down to Gaudreau to be winning 1-0 checking games). Bennett could really establish his own game as a skilled and complete player and not be playing a grinder role trying to prove himself in a perpetual cycle of sucky linemates, crappy usage, overcoached systems, and misguided philosophies. Bennett can't develop in the NHL and as Peters has shown, there's no clean slate just because you get a new coach or a new team. Even if he gets traded, he'll still be stuck in this limbo situation. I think the only current NHL coach who might actually be able to work with Bennett is Bruce Boudreau.
