Columbus
offered Karlsson and a draft pick to bury the terrible Clarkson contract. Columbus had 3 young prospects to choose from and Karlsson was the worst of the 3 based on Columbus’s analysis.
Vegas didn’t choose Karlsson, but they did their due dilligence, interviewed Karlsson and found that Columbus made him play their system and that wasn’t his strength. Based on that they took the deal.
You have to look at the entire deal and not just pick points for your narrative. If we had a contract as bad as Clarkson, say Brouwer but a million more and 1/2 the production, I would be happy to get rid of that contract by offering Ferland and protecting 2 more players from exposure. It wasn’t for nothing.
