Are tech engineers not professionals? I don't know a single engineer that wears a suit to work. Modern companies have come to realize that just cause you're wearing a suit doesn't necessarily mean you're a talented engineer.
Reminds me of my time in software in Calgary. When I worked there, late 90s, I wore a suit and tie. Every day. It was expected, at least at that time, though maybe part of it was being on a project at TCPL.

Fast forward to being "mature", and working in Silicon Valley... I feel overdressed if I have anything more formal than a t-shirt. I actually have 50-60 t-shirts in my collection, and pride myself on new and interesting ones all the time.
