If Gio or Gaudreau or Monahan or Backlund somehow lose their passion for the game this year and Peters does not have a strategy or solution to work them back then the Flames start a new rebuild with a new head coach and GM.

Can the coach make the ownership issues go away?
Can the coach show to Staal that ownership is investing in spending money to put a competitive team on the ice?
How about fans in the building...Carolina was last or 2nd last in the league in attendance in Staal's final couple seasons in Carolina, could Peters control that?
Staal only had 1 1/2 seasons under Peters, and was in his 7th season of not making the playoffs in Carolina. Trying to blame his loss of love of the game strictly on Peters is crazy.
Even then in his first season under Peters he actually had 2 more goals than he had the previous season, and only 6 fewer points than he had under Muller.
Sounds more like Staal knew he was a UFA at seasons end, knew he was likely to be moved at the deadline, and was just going through the motions in his final 6 months in Carolina to me. Then he also realized he couldn't just turn it back on at will when he went to New York and was actually even worse than he was for Peters under AV.
