Five players have scored 40 goals starting the season as 35 years or older. That's in the entire history of the NHL.
I'd easily make the bet that he doesn't score 40.
Howe in 1969
Bucyk in 1971 and 1973
Esposito in 1979
Shanahan in 2006
Selanne in 2006 and 2007
Both Shanahan and Selanne arguably benefited from the rest of the lockout in 2006, Selanne in particular pretty much credits his revitalization from that lockout and the effect it, and the surgeries, had on his knees. In any case, both those players were one of eleven 40+ goal scorers that year in the significantly higher scoring season.
