Didn’t realize it’s just local to Tokyo. I’m heading to Hokkaido next week and it’s been a concern since two of the places I have booked state online a strict tattoo policy.
Planning on using a cover up but that’s good to know.
I get the slippery slope argument but how do they not limit it to local folk with tattoos if the issue is Yakuza or ex-cons, or drop it completely? There was a big push from the tourism industry a few years ago, can’t say I disagree with your friends.
