While I agree that this team likely needs a tougher coach with a respected NHL tenure to move forward, I think Hartley's time with the team was done. That style of coaching maybe gets you some 2-3 seasons where the club is milked hard of whatever talent it has before they start tuning him out.
I think there are different types of tough coaches. I think players can accept a coach being demanding and verbalizing those expectations. But it did sound like Hartley would make his toughness somewhat personal with his little digs and quips. I think that would rightly grate on players.
