Really? With all due respect you might not have used the word "easy" in your first post but when you dismiss it as "just sitting" in the slot" you're making it seem that way. There was no other way to read that post.

This is why calgaryblood hinted that those who say he just "goes to the slot" haven't really played the game before. To put it bluntly getting there just isn't that f'n easy.
The slot isn't some open area that once a player skates to he's allowed free reign over. Monahan is constantly reading the ice, reading the play, seeing what his teammates and the opposing players are doing, he's a high IQ hockey player. Finding those openings, finding those gaps.

Monahan isn't just sitting around waiting to be found "in the slot". Chips the puck along the boards to keep the play going, instead of just skating aimlessly he takes two strides away from the covering defencemen giving himself enough room, he moves towards the puck carrier and the play on the left side of the ice and when the puck comes to him he's always ready. Snaps it off with his deadly shot and it's in.
