If that's the money they want then you walk away in my mind, and move on to cheaper options that are solid 5s, hoping the play of Kulak and Andersson/Kylington/depth signing can make it work.
Sooner or later this team has to assume they will make the playoffs and do the legwork in Sep-Dec to get young players ready to be an impact in April and May.

Yeah this exactly. I don't want the Flames to overpay to build some super elite defense corps, thinking that could cover other weaknesses.
Better to take chances with what you have and keeping some dry powder vs. overpaying for a #4.
Feels like the Flames are due for a "bargain" signing. Would be great if that's Stone.
