They don't have value for teams looking to replace a top 6 forward or top 4 d-man with a top 6 forward or top 4 d-man.
The classic packaging of
B-rate prospect + 2nd round pick + marginal NHLer for
front-line player trade is just a fan fantasy.
When it comes to trades, the Flames' problem is they don't have enough depth to trade a veteran difference-maker, but the team is still rebuilding so it's not a smart idea to trade 1st round picks or top prospects.
