I'm assuming it's the independent Washington law firm that Trump hired to look at it and write the letter. To me that's different than if it was his usual personal lawyers (who are already in for a pound with Trump).
EDIT: Russians buying properties on the open market is different than what the tax returns would show. I'm not saying he isn't corrupt or that his campaign didn't have inappropriate contact with Russia, I'm just saying there isn't going to be a big smoking gun "Bribes from Putin" line item in his tax returns.
