Let's be real, Ferland, Monahan, Gaudreau, Backlund, Tkachuk, Brodie, Gio... those guys are the reason for the team success. Tod Button and/or no-brainer draft position.

Now was Gulutzan the right coach hired for this job? So far I would say yes, but two years ago Willie Desjardins was getting similar hype and positive reviews before Hartley coached circles around him in the playoffs. I am optimistic but coaching a playoff series isn't the same as coaching 82 games. Darryl Sutter said it himself - the coach doesn't do a whole lot until playoff time.

For now, we still have an anchor contract that may impact the contracts of Stone/Ferland/Bennett/Tkachuk and that anchor was signed by Tre. Long term do you trust Tre to avoid anchors when he signs some every other year? For now with the Stone trade I will say Treliving has earned another opportunity to be GM but he has not proven much more than that. He inherited an excellent core.
Let's just look at a couple of his key/recent moves...

Trades:

Hamilton - #1/2 Defensemen who's only 23
Stone for peanuts
Lazar
Elliott
Glencross, Baertchsi, Russell, Hudler for picks

FA Signings:
Frolik
Brouwer (which you say is awful)
Johnson
Engelland
Versteeg

Re-signings:
Brodie
Giordano
Monahan
Bouma (meh)
etc

Yeah, he hasn't done much. Definitely still Feaster (or Tod Button??)'s team

Admittedly there have been some misses (Byron, Mason Raymond, Extending/Firing Hartley, last year's goaltending) but he has aggresively gone out to fix the most glaring issue with the team each year, added to our young core, and has this team trending upwards. The future looks bright from here.
