Yup. Basically there are two classes.

Pre-ban (prior to 1986) can be owned by civilians, so long as you get the required ATF background checks and tax stamps. Prices for good firearms are in the tens of thousands.

Post-ban (after 1986) is basically reserved for LEO, military and FFL holders with LE demo letters. There are significantly cheaper (AR can be had for maybe $2,000) simply because civilians can't own them.
