Really it doesn't matter how much talent is on the roster, if you don't have a quality head coach your team is going to underachieve. Edmonton and Toronto both brought in coaches that were winners. They know how to handle a locker room and how to get the best out of their players. Teams like the Flames and Jets hire career .500 coaches and they get a product exactly as advertised. I can see Treliving maybe thought that Gulutzan was better than the coach he appeared to be in Dallas but the Flames look exactly how his Dallas teams looked and in this business there's no room for leap of faith type hires because missing on head coaching hires gets GM's fired even if he's done a decent job building a team.
