It's still quite possible. Every teams go through slumps and down periods but the good teams don't lose 5 or 6 straight. They find ways to mix in a win here and there and keep the losing streaks limited to 2 and 3 games. The Oilers are reverting to what they've been for the last decades. I'm hopeful I'm wrong and they'll snap out of it but a decades worth of evidence to the contrary doesn't leave me optimistic.
I think the next logical step if they're a bottom feeder at the end of the year again is to fold the team and redistribute the talent to the other 29 franchises. Calgary gets Fayne.

Oh son, that's going to happen no matter what. Not the folding of the team. But the realization that this core has this year and next year to do something because those massive contract raises are coming over the next two years, and the Oilers will have to become a one or two line team and pray that their terrible organizational depth will let them fill in the gaps.
They're also going to have to realize that McDavid or no McDavid, they're still icing a failed and badly drafted and built team every night.
So yeah, Conner is going to see another rebuild by the Oilers with the new justification. "We have to build a team around Conner".
But what keeps me snuggly is that Chia is going to be the guy that has to do it, and he's made so many bad trades and decisions that I can't wait to see how he blows up this Oilers core and tries to rebuild.
Oh Oiler fans, and not all of them, but the arrogant delusional ones that keep bragging about this mess up North. Your misery has just begun.
I'm beginning to think that the Oilers organization is run by Pinhead, and Oiler fans frankly like pain
Pinhead: Save your tears. I'll reap your sorrow slowly. I have centuries to discover the things that make you whimper.
