Yeah... I'd still be pretty shocked if China
really didn't want the nuke to be tested. I don't really see how it hurts their diplomatic standing with anyone. Again, they're (seen to be) on the side of the US/Europe/Russia here... I think their diplomatic relations would be hurt a lot more if they condoned the test or stayed 'neutral'. At least this way they look like they're with the international body politic. I just don't think they are, and I think the US knows this, but who wants to cause a major incident? China's doing fine, and the US is in no shape. You want to talk damaged international diplomatic standing, start talking about the US.
