I realize that but if he wants a shorter term deal than the anticipation is the cap will be much lower. 4 years leaves him as a RFA which is fine but 5 years is a death blow sending him to UFA at 27 (turning 28 over the summer).
Personally I would rather the Flames pay him $7.5-8M per for 8 years. He can still sign a max payday after that with us or whoever he wants.
