SUVs and trucks make it really hard to see low things like short kids when you are backing up. It would have almost surely helped in this case. They do give a pretty wide angle, and having the audible warnings work pretty great at warning you if you are going to hit anything. I have to say it is about 95% safer for backing up larger vehicles vs no camera.
