That is to some extent what the U.S. has done, isn't it? Leaving a skeleton crew to man the ropes while the bulk of their armed forces is committed in Iraq?
Either way, either it's a conflict worth fighting, in which case 37 lives is a price worth paying, or it's a pointless conflict, in which case one death is too many. In that sense, this news is unlikely to change anyone's opinion.
