In no way intended to pick on your post...I've just read several of these kinds of posts around here lately.
I must be missing something because Ortio's good stretch run, statistically wouldn't even be average over the year. On top of that, these were meaningless games with no pressure of a playoff drive.
Outside of a big move for a top flight goalie, a tandem of Antii Raanta and Chad Johnson would give the Flames a better chance of receiving average goaltending over the year at a cheap price, than handing at least the back up role to Ortio.
I'm fine with re-signing Ortio on a last chance short term 1 year show me contract at <$1MM which then gets jettisoned via waivers or buried in the AHL when he goes out with an .890 to start the season or doesn't even win a job out of camp.
Nice guy but, sure hasn't shown the ability to be average in plenty of opportunity.
