If he thought Colorado was his best shot, I guess he's not that great at assessing how good a hockey team is. Everyone and their dog thought that they wouldn't replicate that result, especially after letting Stastny go. Colorado wasn't the best bet, not even top 10 at the time. An overachieving lot that relied too much on goaltending and then exchanged their elite 2-way #2 center for an aging, offense first winger. Mix in a shallow defense with a lack of depth in their bottom 6 and it wasn't surprising at all that they faltered when everything didn't go exactly right for them two years in a row.
I truly believe he took the best offer, and you know what? All the power to him. He also got a chance to play with some old chums, which I'm sure factored into his decision. Don't kid yourself though, there were many other places where he had a better chance, but he would've had to settle for a more modest salary and a shorter term. He wanted to get paid again, and he did. Again, all the power to him.
