Right now Stamkos is a better hockey player than Monahan (his struggles after coming back from injury aside), but by the time the Flames are actually contenders in 2-3 years, Stamkos will be past his prime while Monahan will just be entering it.
Hamilton, is a top pairing D-man now on most teams, with even more potential to get better over the next 2-3 years, for a former first rounder that has had trouble cracking an NHL lineup after a few years trying (even a deep one), is ludicrous.
Interested to see if people think I have the homer glasses firmly attached here or not.

I think there's a fair amount of homerism going on here.
Stamkos is 25 and to say he will be past his prime is 2-3 years seems a little ridiculous. Most established stars in the league maintain their level of play until their early to mid-30s. That's another ~10 seasons of strong play from him. Stamkos is the better player today, will likely be the better player in 2-3 years, and will likely even be the better player in 5 years. And this doesn't mean that Monahan will be bad. The reason not to make the trade is because you will likely have to pay Stamkos +$10M/year whereas we can hopefully get Monahan locked in around $5.5M/year and spend that extra $4.5M on another valuable roster piece.
As for Dougie Hamilton, he's far more established than Drouin and would be an overpay. He's not a top pairing D on a solid team now though...but he has potential to turn into one.
