Incorrect. Wideman has played well in every situation last year. This year is 6 games old. Guess who else looked bad in all situations this year? All-star Gio, the steal-of-a-deal Hamilton, Russell, Hudler, Ferland, Backland... shall I go on? Maybe cut Wideman a tinsy tiny bit of slack? He's got 5 points in 6 games. None of the D have played particularly well this year. Engellend has probably made the least amount of blunders.

I do feel as though Russell will be the odd man out. Cheaper to trade, GM's always find grit and heart a tangible asset and values it. I won't like it, but Hamilton pushed Russell out the door even though you would think it would be Wideman, but not right now. Wideman's going finish his contract in CGY I think.

I think a smart GM can make those top 5 Dmen fit. Remember that Jones, Hiller, Ramo, & Raymond are not in the plans long term, and Hudler is potentially coming off the books this year also. It will open up a lot of cap space, and I think building a rock solid defence is key to championships.
