Chemicals are not necessarily a bad thing. Technically water is a chemical.
I don't think it is completely a coincidence that life expectancy is higher in countries that practice modern animal husbandry compared to hunter-gatherer societies.
Wild game is very susceptible to parasites and disease (especially carrion eaters like bears, which is why First Nations would not typically even hunt them for meat). Pigs in the wild had the same issues, but farming practices have made eating pork a lot safer than before humans knew how to raise the animals properly.
