"The writer mentions, but glosses over the fact, that 8 ocean scientists (basically the entire faculty of ocean science at UVIC) have assesed the situation, and say no ill effect has ever been measured, that the proposed system will make a negligible environmental impact, and if we want to spend a billion dollars we should worry about storm run off from the roads - because gas and oil dripping out of cars is a very serious, measurable and potentially treatable problem. The other people who might know would be medical health officers. Whoops! they don't think it's needed either. Oh-oh, better call Mr Floatie.

So we have a bizarre situation where the only people that really know - the ocean scientists - say there is no evidence [that treatment is required]. Everyone else (who doesn't know) is all for it.
