Not saying it's right, but it should not be a criminal offense, if the two people are in a loving, consensual relationship. However, if you pay for sex with a 16 year old girl, that's another story.
Yeah, some of the really extreme cases creep me out personally, but I realize other people might be different. The rule we have in Alberta makes sense, as many teenagers are sexually active. I like that there is a provision for 'positions of power'. It makes sure adults who do have sway over teenagers and could take advantage of it don't do that.

But if your 16 and you want to, have at er I guess. I think we understand as adults that people that age don't make the best decisions, and often decisions of sex come from places of hurt or depression or other problems, but you can't blanket a law that takes away freedoms just because some people aren't smart about it. At least not one about something like this. It's their own body and own life. (Guns maybe are different. )

Personally, I do find many cases like that creepy though. Every once in a while you hear a case that worked out. I knew a woman who married a guy over twice her age at 15. This was back when the laws were even less strict anyway. They have one of the successful marriages I know. And it's not because he 'groomed' her or is controlling. They're very happy and are nice people. Love is weird. That's why it's so hard to make laws around it.

Also, many other countries this type of behavior is pretty normal (I don't mean paying for sex or preying on teenagers, just the age argument). Not saying we're right and they're wrong. Or they're right and we're wrong. Just that a lot of it is perspective.
