One year in the CHL and then transition to the AHL would be my guess here. The Flames have more than enough defensemen in the AHL that need ice time, so I don't think there's a need to throw Kylington into the AHL already ... I just saw that he just turned 18 in May, so a pretty young player in his draft class. I think a year in the CHL wouldn't hurt him, and unless I get something wrong here, he'd still be AHL eligible as a 19-year-old next year because he wasn't drafted out of the CHL (same rule that allowed Sieloff to turn pro a year early).

Sutter brought Backlund over from the Allsvenskan where his development was at a dead stall a year and a half after he was drafted. He was a major force in the CHL with the Rockets (Benn, Myers and Backlund) going to the memorial cup.
